The Chair Maker...
Meet Amous Maue...I have been working with wood professionally for more than thirty years. I apprenticed to a master builder who taught me how to build a house, the cabinets - and all the furniture inside. The most difficult aspect of the woodworking trade is to build chairs that are light, strong, comfortable and good looking. You alone can judge the looks of my chairs but they are relatively light, comfortable and built to last.

I also build other types of furniture by commission, tables, cabinets, jewelry boxes, occasionally houses and/or their interiors.

I endeavor to craft things in such a way that they will last at least as long as it took to grow the trees they are made from. This means building furniture that will last at least eighty years. This is the minimum standard necessary to preserve our forests. I work to surpass this.

I have a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan. When I’m not working wood, I like to walk or snowshoe in the woods or along the many rivers and lakes in northern Michigan. I also write prose and poetry.
